Join us in Mahwah, NJ on January 13, 15, and 18 for a comprehensive Wilderness First Aid Certification Course designed to address the unique challenges and situations you may encounter on our Northeast trails. This course is ideal for trail runners, hikers, outdoor enthusiasts, and backcountry adventurers. You will receive hands-on training in wilderness first aid techniques, including how to assess and manage injuries, illnesses, and emergencies in remote environments. In addition to wilderness first aid, you'll also earn CPR and AED certifications, equipping you with life-saving skills.

Join Barefoot Ken at 8:45am on April 11th at Harriman State Park, NY for an easy-paced 4.6-mile saunter up and down three modest mountains in Harriman State Park, on trails which offer moderate grade and an interesting mix of grass, dirt, and rocks. Please meet at the White Bar Trailhead Parking lot. This is an inclusive outing, open to first-timers and experienced barefooters, young and old alike; if you're brand new, carry shoes in case your feet have had enough stimulation for the day. Pre-registration is required and this event is limited to 12 folks! Heather will provide valuable methods for confident identification, ethical harvest, and easy preparation. Edible and medicinal plants can be found from urban to wilderness landscapes. Many may be found in your own backyard, in the garden as common weeds, or in other natural places you frequent. Learn how to transform these wild plants into delicious snacks, medicinal teas, and home remedies. Our walk will conclude with a medicinal tea tasting highlighting a plant we've met! The walk will be easy to moderate in nature with many stops along the way to meet the plants. Please note that this walk is educational in nature and that no plants will be harvested from the grounds. The class will take place on Heather's land and on nearby Pinchot family land (Gifford Pinchot, the Father of Conservation) in the Milford Experimental Forest.
