What could be better than ice cream and trails?! Join us at 10am on Sunday August 31st at Stairway to Heaven in Vernon, NJ. We'll do a group hike on the Appalachian Trail and then get ice cream at The Towne Scoop. Sasquatch is paying for Sassquad Members' ice cream! Please RSVP!
TRAIL PARTY DETAILS
ROUTE DESCRIPTION
We'll do an out and back run on the Appalachian Trail up to Pinwheel Vista and then get ice cream at Heaven Hill Farm. This section of the Appalachian Trail is very rugged and steep; there are a lot of rocks! The group will be hiking together but you're welcome to run ahead. We'll be following the white blazes of the AT until we get to the top of the climb. We'll turn left at the huge pile of rocks to go another tenth of a mile to reach the iconic Pinwheel Vista. It's less than 1.5 miles to the summit, so all-in, the hike will be about 3 miles. There are no restrooms at the trailhead.
BYO-EVERYTHING
Bring whatever you'll need to self-support your run/hike! You'll want to have a pair of trail running or hiking shoes, a water bottle or hydration pack and food/snacks if you'd like to munch on something during the hike. Non-Members please bring $ for ice cream afterwards.
parking
There is a very small gravel lot at the trailhead that only fits about 5 cars (you should play the lottery if you're able to snag one of those spots). There is a pay-to-park lot next to the trailhead that we will use. You'll need to use the ParkMobile app. After the hike, we will walk across Rt. 94 to Heaven Hill Farm for ice cream!
GETTING TO THE MEET-UP
Please park in the pay-to-park lot next to the Stairway to Heaven lot. You'll need to pay for parking via the ParkMobile App.
